Obituary

Marguerite Stephens, endearingly called "Cookie," was born in Worth County, Georgia on February 14, 1958.  She was the loving daughter of the late Edmond Stephens and  Mattie Pearl Jones Green.

Growing up in Albany, Georgia, Marguerite was an extremely sweet, empathetic, and happy individual who captured the hearts of everyone around her.  She loved life and fought through many adversities.  In later years, she relocated to Leesburg, Georgia with her sister Gloria who became her caretaker.  Over the years, Gloria adjusted her life and schedule to meet Cookie's needs and have her included with everyday life.  They shared a sisterly bond that was unshakeable and filled with unconditional love.

Cookie lived her life spreading endless amounts of joy and affection to everyone who had the privilege of meeting her.  She taught us to love greater, to be kind and considerate to everyone, and to look at this world with wide eyes full of wonder and excitement.   No matter how she felt or what she was experiencing, she was always grateful for everything that came her way.  Cookie simply loved life and would smile and life—just because!   She was the kind of person that anyone would be proud to call sister, niece, aunt, cousin, or friend.  She was an angel on earth who left an indelible impression on all of our lives.  What defined her most was her love for God.

Listening to all kinds of music was an integral part of Marguerite's life.  She had a fondness for dancing; playing with her dolls, cell phone, and books; and thumbing through the pages of her bibles. Cookie also enjoyed dressing up, having her hair styled, and getting her nails polished—she was definitely a "fashionista" at heart.  Her enthusiasm and exuberance were contagious and we were all beneficiaries of her remarkable and memorable attributes.

On Tuesday, February 13, 2024, Marguerite transitioned from this earthly life at Phoebe Hospice.   Although we are deeply saddened by her loss, we rejoice in the fact that "absent from the body is to be present with the Lord" and she now has a healed, perfect body. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepparents, Charlie Mae Stephens and Plemon Green, Sr.; two siblings, twin brother Maurice Stephens and Carl C. Green; niece, Teresa Ann Billingsly; great niece, Takeirra Alexia Stubbs; and her uncle, Willie Jones.

Loving memories will be forever cherished by her devoted sister, Gloria Dean (Jerry) King of Leesburg, GA; loving brother, Plemon Green, Jr. (James) of Columbus, GA; aunts and uncles, Annie Mae Bailey, Minnie Fowler, Charlie Mae Stephens, Robert Stephens, Grady Jones, Jacob Jones, and Lawrence Jones all of Albany, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews
