A Time to Be Born: Marie Lewis Bowens, beloved daughter of the late Adonis Marshall and Lucille Holmes Lewis, was born in Albany, Georgia on January 8, 1958.
A Time to Learn: She attended the public schools of Dougherty County, including Westover High School. Marie continued her education at Albany Technical College where she gained valuable technical and industrial food service skills..
A Time to Serve: At a very early age, Marie confessed her faith and belief in Christ Jesus. She united with the Third Kiokee Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor R. B. Smith, Sr. and served faithfully for many years. She later joined Union Missionary Baptist Church under the guidance of Pastor John A. Severson. From that point forward, she devoted herself faithfully as an Usher standing proudly at her post welcoming the congregation.
A Time to Love and Work: Family as paramount in Marie's life. She was a devoted wife to O'Neal Bowens who preceded her in death in 2021, and a loving mother to her only son Richard. Her devotion to her family was immeasurable and she worked untiringly at various restaurants in Albany to provided unconditionally for them. She was often described as an "awesome" cook with blessed hands and a soulful heart. She retired having rendered many years of dedicated service.
A Time to Embrace: Marie was a very kind and gentle-hearted person who embraced life's experiences with open arms. Her doors were always open, her table was bountifully spread, and she stood ready to provide support or lend a listening ear. She will be dearly missed.
A Time to Rest : On December 22, 2022, Marie answered her final call and quietly transitioned to her heavenly home. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by five siblings, Susan Reeves, Jessie Mae Davis, Lester Lewis, Jessie Carter, and Luretha Lewis.
A Time to Cherish: Loving memories will forever be cherished by her son, Richard C. (Lawanda) Lewis; grandchildren, Ricdreca Jones, Deshane Boyd, and Jontavious Styles; great grandchildren, Amiya, Amorian, Amilya, and Autumn; her brother, Winford Lewis; sister-in-law, Bennie Lewis, special friend, David Mitchell; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
