Obituary

Mark Omerta Bruno, beloved son of the late George Socie and Marian Patterson Socia, was born in Altoona, Pennsylvania on September 15, 1965.  He was a delightful, happy child and that never changed—it followed him throughout his life.

He was educated in the Altoona Area School District where he gained valuable technical and industrial skills that steered his interest toward the food service industry.  Mark relocated to Baltimore, Maryland where he was employed as a chef—his true passion and career goal.

Believing strongly in loyalty and commitment to his country, Mark enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1983.  He served honorably while stationed throughout the US and abroad and he received numerous medals and commendations as he advanced through the military ranks.  Mark traveled the world, but settled in Albany, Georgia in 2007 after losing his wife and children in an automobile accident.

In 2008, Mark was given a second chance at a caring, understanding, supportive, and extraordinary friendship when he met Peggy Enslow.  Their values were mutual and their easy-going personalities made it easy for them to form a deep, loving, and timeless bond that ultimately resulted in marriage.

Marco, as he was fondly known by many, was simply a true joy to everyone around him.  His presence was a gift; his love for family, friends, and community was unmatched; his contagious smile and happy demeanor could light the darkest of spaces.  He was a devoted husband, caring father and godfather, unfailing brother, awesome uncle, committed cousin, and loyal friend who embraced life with open arms.  He believed deeply in unconditional love, enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and delighted in helping and caring for others.  His friendliness and kindness to all people and his devotion and love for his family and friends are lasting tributes to his benevolence, generosity, and  beauty of his heart  and soul.

Mark was a devout Christian who fought a good fight, who finished his course, who kept the faith until God called him home to everlasting peace and rest on Sunday, January 8, 2023.     He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to have been a part of his life.

He is survived by his loving wife, Peggy Enslow; his daughter, Michita (Tony) Hopson; grandchildren, Khyler and Bryce; siblings, Charmaine Socie Newkirk, George Socie, and Garth Patterson; godchildren, Conrad Taylor, Temeka Taylor, Camille Taylor, Senoia McGhee, Antonio Randall, Tatyana Brown, and Marquise Brown; nephew, Mike Socie; cousin, Paula Chamberlain; a special family friend, Wendy (Rochelle) Tucker; extended family; and friends.
