Obituary

The season of life for Marvin Lee Thomas began on July 1, 1953, in Albany, Georgia.  He was the loving son of the late Sgt. Jack Thomas, Sr. and Elizabeth Childs Thomas.  Born with the crippling disease, polio, Marvin was destined to never be able to walk.  But God!...in his infinite power worked through neighbors, Mr. Will and Ms. Eliza, to provide therapeutic treatment that ultimately led to a miraculous healing.  Not only was he able to walk; he could run as well.

Continuing in his growth season, Marvin received his formal education in the Dougherty County School System, graduating from Dougherty Comprehensive High School in 1973.  Throughout high school, he was actively involved in numerous student organizations and activities.  "BaeBro and Lightning," as he was fondly called by classmates, family, and friends, was not only an insightful and astute student, but an exceptional athlete as well.  His physical talent and natural ability could be seen from the moment he picked up a basketball, or walked onto a football or track field.  He pushed himself daily to perfect his skills and dominate the sports that he loved so much; thus, becoming an all-around lettered athlete.  After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army and served with distinction.

Early in life, BaeBro accepted Christ as his Savior and began his season of Christian fellowship at St. Mary Baptist Church. He was an Usher who proudly stood at his post welcoming the congregation.

A jack of all trades, Lightning's diverse work experiences included employment with Fiat, Lykes, and Nativity. He also performed handyman services for various families in the community.  Baebro was dedicated to pleasing people with his work and always gave his BEST no matter what the task.

Loving father and grandfather, committed brother and uncle, loyal cousin and friend, Lightning lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures—chatting and spending time with friends and family. He had a great sense of humor, enjoyed making people laugh, and could always find a silver lining in any situation.  He will be deeply missed.

On April 17, 2025, Marvin transitioned from this earthly season to eternal rest.

Cherished memories will forever remain with his children,  Dotanya Fowler and Tecio (Denovia) Fowler; grandsons, Christopher, Casey, Tecio Jr., Trey, and Logan; great grandson, Isaiah; siblings, Jack (Annie) Thomas, Jr., Hazel Banner, Janie (Johnny) Camel, Lenora (James) Stephens, and Frankie (Michael) McCaskill; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.
