Mary Eunice Barnes was born in Leary, Georgia on December 13, 1940. She was the beloved daughter of the late Benny Lee and Ethel Lee Barnes. At a very early age, she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior.
She was educated in the public schools of Calhoun County, including H. T. Singleton High School and graduated in 1960. After graduation, she moved to Valdosta, Georgia where she resided for an extensive period of time.
Mary later returned to Calhoun County and began working as a domestic engineer. Over the years, she was diligent in caring for the needs of her family. She was a persistent, hardworking individual who always took great pride in her work, no matter what the task. She was an exceptional mother who loved unconditionally, instilled in her children the value of hard work, and who taught them to persevere and stick together through the trials and triumphs of life.
Mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and loyal friend—Mary was a lady with a kind heart and a generous spirit. Her doors were always open to family and friends. She was blessed with a genuinely warm smile and an engaging personality that captured the hearts of all who knew her. Nothing made her happier than being surrounded by family and friends. She was dearly loved and will be deeply missed.
On Wednesday, January 10, 2018, Mary's earthly journey ended and she entered into eternal rest. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Michael Vantine Barnes; and five siblings, Armanda Singleton, Arthur James Barnes, Willie Ed Barnes, Margaret Valcin, and Ronald Milton Barnes, Sr.
She leaves to mourn her passing and cherish fond memories her loving daughter, Antonia Barnes; a nephew that she raised as a son, Darian Barnes; two sisters-in-law, Deloise Barnes and Evelyn Barnes; three grandchildren, Nekyaih Barnes, Naadia Barnes, and Aunjrae Barnes; special friends who were very dear to her, Dorothy Marie Leveston, Belinda Stephens, Perline Jackson, Darwin Williams, Rosa Kent, James Barnes, and Verlyn Plummer; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and classmates.
