Our beloved mother, Mary Blackshear Hopson peacefully departed this life on December 27, 2023.

Born on February 9, 1933, to the late Johnnie Sr. and Louvenia Blackshear of Covington Georgia, she was the third sibling of five.  At an early age she joined Richards Chapel United Methodist Church and served faithfully.  She later moved membership to the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Albany, Georgia.

On December 27, 1952, she married her beloved husband, the late James A. Hopson.  Their union was blessed with two daughters and one son, all of whom she served as a loving wife and mother.  An avid gardener, she enjoyed the work required to maintain beautiful surroundings.

As an award-winning beautician and early entrepreneur, Mary opened the Mary Hopson's Glamour Room which she successfully operated for over 40 years.  She also spent time as a Cosmetology instructor.

Mary is survived by three children, Shonna (Robert) Lee, Gina (Henry) Gavin, and Granger: six grandchildren: Michelle Lee, James (Sharon) Lee, Zoe Hopson, James Hopson II, Baron Hopson, and John Hopson; two great grandchildren: Maverick Lee and Roxanna Lee; one brother: Johnny Blackshear Jr.; there sisters – in – law: Lorraine (Jessie) Walton, Janet (Randolph) Maxey, Betty Bennett and one brother – in law Robert (Eleanor) Hopson and a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and friends.
