IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mary
Johnson
February 14, 1949 – December 2, 2024
Mary Louise Johnson was born in Richmond Hill, Georgia on February 14, 1949. She was the loving daughter of the late William Barnes and Annie Mae Houston.
She was educated in the Chatham County School System, graduating from Richard Arnolds High School. During school, Mary was a very lively, energetic young lady who excelled academically while actively participating in various student activities. She later continued her education at Albany State University where she was awarded a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice.
A very conscientious and persistent individual, Mary was a career employee with the Dougherty County Department of Juvenile Justice where she served as a Juvenile Probation Officer. Throughout her career, she strongly believed that all deserved a second chance; and she worked relentlessly to make a difference and improve the quality of life for juveniles in her care. Mary was a dedicated employee who always gave her BEST, and retired after rendering years of unmatched service.
Loving mother, doting grandmother and great grandmother, awesome sister, nurturing aunt, committed cousin, and loyal friend, Mary had a servant's heart and took great pride in using her talents to help others. One of her greatest qualities was her ability to encourage people to make the best of everything. She believed wholeheartedly that there was no obstacle that could not be overcome. A beacon of light and love, she will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of being a part of her life.
On December 2, 2024, Mary peacefully transitioned from this earthly life in Atlanta, Georgia.
Loving memories will forever remain in the hearts of her children, Angela Johnson and Keith Johnson; her siblings, Barbara Cuthbert, Beverly Hurst, Sylvia Andrews, Oliver Barnes, and Willie Lee Palmer; ten grandchildren and thirty great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.
