IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mary Homer
Lewis
October 18, 1939 – July 29, 2019
Mary Homer Lewis , beloved daughter of the late Queen Homer, was born in Albany, Georgia on October 18, 1939.
She attended the public schools of Dougherty County where she was active in numerous school organizations and activities.
At a very early age, Mary accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and united with the Union Missionary Baptist Church. She was a faithful member for numerous years and readily assisted wherever needed.
Mary was a very independent person who had an everlasting love for her children. Those who encountered her often described her as a caring, hardworking mother who provided unconditionally for her family; who ensured that they were well-kept at all times; and who taught her children to be respectful, humble, and to love one another. Mary was an exceptional cook whose skills were put to test daily in the Dougherty County School System's Child Nutrition Program. Over the years, she took great pride in ensuring that children and staff were provided nutritious and delicious meals. Affectionally known as the "lunchroom lady," Mary labored untiringly to ensure that no task was left undone. She retired after having rendered 35 years of loyal and dedicated service.
Devoted daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and loyal friend, Mary was a very genuine, kind-hearted person who was a joy to be around. She knew how to bring people together and her home was always open to family, friends, and anyone in need.
On July 29, 2019, Mary answered the call to eternal rest. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her sister, Sally Jane Arnold and her son-in-law, Wilbert Dixon, Sr.
Loving memories will forever be cherished by her children, Joann (Silas) Wheeler, Patricia (Wilbert) Dixon, Wendy Hawkins, Hasty (Shedrick) King, Moses (Chantel) Lewis, Rickey Lewis, Marvin Lewis (Lora) and Shun (Rod) Baker all of Albany, GA; one sister, Louise Harris of Albany, GA; twenty-four grandchildren and forty-two great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; two loving caregivers, Vajuanda Walton and Gladys Jackson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren, and friends.
