IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mary Della
Simpson
December 1, 1946 – September 3, 2023
Mary Della Simpson was born in Camilla, Georgia on December 1, 1946, to the late John Wesley Felton and Sophia Wheeler Felton.
She received her primary and secondary education in the Mitchell County School System. During school, Mary demonstrated exceptional potential while developing an eye for detail and a passion for sewing. She was a very zealous student who took advantage of every opportunity to learn and grow.
Raised in a strong Christian home, Mary was a Mother of the church. She was a faithful member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Greenough, Georgia where she served in numerous capacities for many years. Her strong faith and unwavering convictions made her resilient and allowed her to be an example for her family, friends, church family, and all who encountered her.
Mary Della was united in holy matrimony to Robert Simpson who preceded her in death. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who diligently cared for the needs of her family. Her grandchildren, whom she raised, were a source of joy and pride in her life. They shared many happy and precious moment together and truly enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. Mary was a doting grandmother and great grandmother who was actively involved in her great grandchildren's sporting events. Assuredly, they held the key to her heart.
A highly skilled and accomplished seamstress, Mary's sewing skills stood out throughout her employment at Darwood Manufacturing Company. Her attention to detail and superior workmanship—a well finished seam, a covered button, a concealed zipper, positioning of pin tucks and darts, or turning a collar; are mere fractions of the reasons why she excelled and successfully progressed through the ranks at Darwood for more than 30 years. She could do it all!!
Upon retirement, she was lauded as a loyal, conscientious, and dedicated employee who rendered outstanding and unparalleled service. She forged lasting friendships and touched many lives throughout her employment that will forever be remembered.
Mary was a strong yet gentle lady with a quiet strength. She was often described as a trusted friend and confidant who would lend a listening ear to anyone in need of compassion and support. She will be remembered by many as an unselfish servant with a sweet, sweet spirit.
On September 3, 2023, at the Willson Hospice House, Mary quietly answered the Master's call to eternal peace and rest with her sister, Lovetta Palmer, by her side. In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her beloved daughter and only child, Sandra Ellison; and four siblings, John Wesley, Jr., Rosetta Davis, Carleece Oliver, and Richmond Felton.
Loving memories will forever remain in the hearts of her grandchildren, Tekeila Ellison and Shaterrica Ellison; three siblings, Lovetta Palmer, Murleece (TJ) Lewis, and Aaron Felton; great grandchildren, Michael, Carter, Kaiden, Ryan, Carmelo, Reagan, Malaysia and Aubree; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.
