Obituary

Mary Ann Holt Sims, beloved daughter of the late Mary Ella Holt Holman and Emmitt D. Hill, was born in Terrell County, Georgia on July 14, 1951.

She was educated in the Terrell County School System and was actively involved in numerous school organizations and activities.  She continued her education at Albany State College where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing.

Mary's Christian experience began at an early age when she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and was baptized at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Bronwood, Georgia.  In later years, she united with the Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Walter L. Ingram, Jr.  She was an active, dedicated member who served faithfully in numerous ministries.  Her faith never wavered and she remained spiritually strong throughout life's journey.

On August 20, 1980, she was united in holy matrimony to Roosevelt Sims, Jr. They shared a love that endured through the years and a devotion to one another that was strong and unshakeable.  Mary was a committed wife and mother who looked well to the ways of her household and ate not the bread of idleness.  She was employed as a Registered Nurse at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital for many years and worked hard to consistently pursue excellence in her career while caring for her patients with dignity, respect, and true compassion.  She retired after rendering innumerable years of loyal and dedicated service.

Known to have a nurturing, caring spirit, Mary was always willing to share her knowledge and experience with others.  She was a trusted friend and confident, would lend a listening ear to those in need of empathy and support, and freely opened her heart and home to family and friends.  Her friendliness and kindness to all people and her devotion and love for family, friends, and her church are lasting tributes to the beauty of her heart and soul.  In her leisure, she enjoyed fishing, softball, sewing, singing, and dancing.

Mary peacefully departed this earthly life at her home on June 17, 2021.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roosevelt Sims, Jr.; and four brothers, Emmett Holman, Richard Holman, Tommy Holman, and Levi Holman.

Loving memories will forever be celebrated by her son, Kerry Holloman; three daughters borrowed from Mary Curry—Barbara (Charles) Broughton, Jacqueline (Roy) Roberts, and Jeanetta (Eric) Cousin; nine grandchildren, Quatessa, Jaquari, Cornelius, Tomecca, Ricardo, Cheron, Andrea, Jacory, and Amari; her siblings, Vickie Holman, David (Sherry) Holt, Larry (Sherry) Holman, James (Pam) Holman, Gary Holman, Jack Holman, and Gino (Jeane) Homan; sisters-in-law, Christine Holman and Mamie Holman; and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
