IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mattie Ruth
Marshall
May 6, 1946 – August 9, 2021
Mattie Ruth Adams Marshall, daughter of the late Willie Theotis Adams and Rutha Lee Jackson Adams, was born May 6, 1946 in Atlanta, Georgia. During the early years of her life, she was nurtured and cared for by her aunt, the late Ida Mae Adams Hamilton.
She was educated in the Dougherty County School System and was active in numerous school organizations and activities. Throughout school, she was an adventurous young lady with a zeal for learning and new experiences.
At a young age, she accepted Christ as her personal savior, was baptized, and received the "right hand of fellowship" into the body of Christ at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church of Lee County. She was a dedicated member and availed herself in service as an Usher. In 2005, she united with the Greater New Morning Star Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor McKebia D. Bray, Sr.
She dearly loved the Lord and was unfaltering in her devotion and calling as an Usher and President of the Mission Board. Mattie was a prayerful, humble lady who didn't mind telling everyone about the goodness of God. Her encouraging words and the examples that she set served as blessings for many people.
Mattie was united in holy matrimony to Larry Marshall who preceded her in death. As a wife and mother, she was constant in her efforts to care for the needs of her family. She had a quiet strength, never complained, and always looked forward to a better future.
A joy to be around, Mattie was a very genuine, kind-hearted, simplistic person who embraced life's experiences with open arms. She never met a stranger, could converse with anyone who came into her life, and felt most content when serving others. She was truly dedicated to her family and never missed an opportunity to bond and spend quality time with them. Mattie freely opened her heart and home to family and friends. Her unwavering spirit, generosity, and unconditional love will forever be remembered.
On August 9, 2021, Mattie transitioned from this earthly life at Phoebe Putney North Campus to everlasting peace with the Lord. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Willie James Adams, Larry Jackson, and Freddie Adams.
Loving memories will forever be cherished by her children, Derrick G. Adams, Terry (Frances) Marshall, and Nettie (Eddie) Pittman of Albany, GA, Eric (Carolina) Pittman of Americus, GA, and Clifford Marshall and Alvin Swinney of Albany, GA; sixteen grandchildren, twenty-eight great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren; three devoted friends, Mary P. Harris, Rena Mae Walker, and Lilliam Walker; and a host of cousins, extended family, and friends.
