Obituary

A Time to Be Born: Melinda Salters Winchester was born in Columbus, Georgia on January 23, 1956.  She was the second of nine children in the union of Louise Salters and the late Nathaniel Salters.

A Time to Learn: She received her early childhood and secondary education in the Dougherty County School System.  Throughout her school years, Melinda was a vibrant, outgoing young lady who garnered much from her educational and extra-curricula activities.

A Time to Love: On June 13, 1975, she was united in holy matrimony to David Winchester.  Their union was blessed with two sons—David and  Jamie.

A Time to Work: Melinda was a very persistent, conscientious, and independent individual whose employment as a caregiver with Ware Healthcare was marked by hard work and unmatched integrity.  She had a natural gift for serving others; and she worked diligently, over the years, to make a difference in the lives of many people.

A Time to Embrace: A very kind, outgoing, and jovial person, Melinda had a big heart and a welcoming spirit.  She believed deeply in unconditional love, embraced life with open arms, and truly enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Her engaging personality captured the hearts of all who knew her.

A Time to Rest :  On Tuesday, February 28, 2023, Melinda answered her final call and quietly entered into eternal rest at her home in Byron, Georgia, under the care of Brightmoor Hospice. In addition to her father,  she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, David Winchester; her brother, Nathaniel Jones; and her bonus daughter, Contausha Mitchell.

A Time to Cherish: A lifetime of love, inspiration and fond memories will forever be cherished by her mother, Louise Wade Salters; her sons, David Salters and Jamie Salters; grandchildren, LaMarcus Salters, Dontavious Salters, Keith Salters, Korri Salters, Kyle Lewis, Jordan Shaw, Jamie Wooden, and Janijah Salters; siblings, Patricia Salters Coles, Robert Salters, Clifford Salters, Johnny Salters, Shasta (Jarvanta) Jackson, Tameka (Shaquille) Wade, and Tracey Salters (Ebonie Boler); great grandchildren, Amirah Bethea, Zi'Rayan Salters, and Zakai Salters; bonus children, Palanthia Davis, Tony W. James, Keleshia Mitchell, Shobiyun Mitchell, and David Winchester, Jr.; aunts, Gaye Breedlove and Grace Dudley; a very special friend, Mable Winchester; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.
