When evening comes and shadows fall and the one we love must answer the call."
On Tuesday, Melvin Ellis received a call—-an offer he couldn't refuse, for an appointment from which he will not return, to a land where he will never grow old.
Melvin is at rest now and rejoicing in his new home. God has promised us that if this earthly tabernacle is dissolved, we have another building from God, eternal in the heavens.
Melvin was born on July 9, 1954, to the late Peter Ellis and Christian Maxwell in Albany, Georgia. He was added to the body of Gaines Avenue Church of Christ in 1997. He was a dedicated worker in the church.
He was educated in the public schools of Dougherty County, graduating from Monroe High School. He enlisted in the United States Army where he served with distinction. Melvin retired from the Marine Corps Logistic Base after years of loyal service.
We have many fond memories of Melvin—he had a big heart and unconditional love for his family and friends. He heaves to cherish those memories, a devoted and dedicated friend, Gloria Lockhart; four loving children, Larshanna Johnson of Atlanta, GA, Vontressa (Carlos) Woods of Charlotte, NC, D'Amber Walker of Atlanta, GA, and Melvin Ellis, Jr. of Charlotte, NC; one sister, Gloria Johnson of New York, NY; grandchildren, Victoria Woods and Essence Wade; a very special godmother, Sister Blanche Wimberly; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
"Earth has no sorrow that heaven cannot heal."
