IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mittie
Barnes
November 1, 1936 – September 21, 2021
Mittie Barnes, beloved daughter of the late Missie and Lymas Douglas, was born in Early County, Georgia on November 1936.
She received her formal education in the Early County School System. Throughout school, she had a zeal for learning and gained valuable life skills from her educational experiences.
From a very early age, Mittie was nurtured in the Word of God. As a youth, she began her Christian walk with the Lord. After moving to Albany with her family, she activated the principles of the church covenant and united with Mt. Zion Baptist Church. She was a molder, a shaper, and a builder of young women and mothers. She stayed on the battlefield until serious health challenges would not permit her to continue in service. "Ms. Mittie and Mother Barnes" as she was endearingly called by many, was strong in her faith and God's love for all mankind was manifested through her deeds and actions.
In early adulthood, she was united in holy matrimony to her life-long mate, Willie Barnes. Their union was blessed with one daughter—Tammy. Ms. Mittie was a dedicated wife, loving mother, and meticulous homemaker who looked well to the ways of her household and ate not the bread of idleness.
Family was the joy of her life and she supported them in all their endeavors. Over the years, Mother Barnes and her daughter Tammy were an inseparable mother-daughter team. They spent much time together enjoying car rides, shopping, and dining out. They were truly indivisible.
Mother Barnes had a genuine love of life and a servant's heart. She was a selfless person who saw the beauty in all things, accepted everyone for who they were, and openly welcomed them into her heart and home. She will be remembered by many as an unselfish servant with a sweet spirit; humble, generous, and full of kindness; and an all-around "fashionista" with a style and flair of her own.
On Tuesday, September 21, 2021, Mother Barnes answered the Master's call to come Home along with her beloved daughter, Tammy Barnes Shine.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Barnes; and six siblings, Charlie Douglas, Elijah Douglas, Louis Douglas, Lymas Douglas, Jr., Louise Hooks, and Juanita George.
Loving memories will forever be cherished by her grandchildren, Latasha Shine and William Shine both of Albany, GA; five siblings, Marietta Hicks, Ida Smith, Vera Barnes (James), Lenton Douglas (Mary), and Eddie Douglas (Cubie) all of Tampa, FL; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.
