IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mother Emma
Daugherty
November 21, 1927 – March 8, 2019
The journey of life for Mother Emma Daugherty began in Moultrie, Georgia on November 21, 1927. She was the beloved daughter of the late Lucile Hobbs Pope and Lonnie Pope.
During the early years of her life having professed her faith in Christ, she united with the Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church. She served faithfully for many years under the leadership of the late Reverend E. James Grant. In 1986, she united with the Eureka Missionary Baptist Church under the guidance of Dr. Bill Edge, Sr. Through the years, she was a faithful, dedicated member who served unwaveringly on the Senior Usher Board and numerous other capacities wherever needed. While on her post greeting the congregation with a smile, it was evident that Mother Daugherty held fast to her belief that she would "rather be a doorkeeper in the house of the Lord." Even in the midst of declining health, she was seen still trying to do the work of the Lord—always giving God the praise and glory. On three occasions, Mother Daugherty was crowned "Miss Eureka" by the women of the church. The title was one that she cherished and held dear to her heart. She was a vessel who was deeply rooted and grounded in the Lord; who loved her pastor and his wife, Drs. Bill and Eloise Edge, unconditionally; who loved her church family immensely; and who was strong in character and wisdom.
As a loving and devoted mother, she was extremely conscientious in caring for the needs of her children. She was an exceptionally talented cook and her culinary skills were put to the test for many years through her employment for at Tip-Top Dicks and Bess Restaurants. Over the years, she was widely acclaimed for her soulful recipes—especially her signature "sweet potato casserole." She retired after rendering innumerable years of loyal and dedicated service.
Always gentle, kind, and personable, Mother Daugherty was loved by all who had the privilege of having her in their lives. She was a selfless person who saw the beauty in all things, accepted everyone for who they were, and openly welcomed them into her heart and home. You couldn't know her without being spired by her love and devotion to her family, friends, church, and community. In her leisure, she enjoyed a array of activities, including membership in the Elks Lodge where the title of "Miss Elks" was bestowed upon her.
On March 8, 2019, Mother Daugherty quietly answered the Master's call to come home. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Willie B. Rushin.
Left with many loving memories to cherish are her children, Quincy (Teresa) Carroll of Tifton, GA, Michael Daugherty of Maine, and Cathy (Bill) Wright of Albany, GA; grandchildren and great grandchildren; and a host of cousins, other relatives, friends, and the Eurika Baptist Church family.
