Obituary

Murray Oliver was born in Colquitt, Georgia on August 26, 1953.  He was the son of the late Fenison Oliver, Sr. and the late Rutha M. Oliver.

He attended the public schools of Dougherty County, graduating from Monroe High School.  While at Monroe, he participated in numerous school organizations and activities.  He continued his education at Albany State College.

Throughout his childhood, Murray was nurtured in the Word of God.  At a young age, he accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and united with Mt. Calvary Baptist Church where he served faithfully as a Deacon and a member of the Male Chorus many years.   He later joined Greater Pine Chapel Missionary Baptist Church and continued to serve as a dedicated member and Deacon until his demise.  Deacon Oliver was a vessel whose faith in God never waivered, who loved his church dearly, and who stayed on the battlefield.  He was deeply rooted and grounded in the Lord.

Early in life, he was united in holy matrimony to Myllicent Myricks.  Their union was blessed with one daughter—Malinda. He was a loving father and grandfather who was most attentive to the needs of his family.  He was later united in marriage to Pauline Sheffield who preceded him in death. Deacon Oliver was a persistent, hardworking, individual who spent the majority of his working career laboring tirelessly at Trailways Bus Station of Albany.  He was a committed and dedicated employee and truly enjoyed the interaction with his co-workers during his employment.  Never satisfied with idleness, he also worked along side his brother at Oliver's Lawncare Service.

Family and friends meant the world to Deacon Oliver and he delighted in spending quality time with them.  He was a kind, generous man who greeted each day with a smile and touched the lives of many.  You couldn't know him without being inspired by his love and devotion to his family, friends, church, and community.  He will long be remembered for his willingness to lend a helping hand and his supportive spirit.

On Friday, March 1, 2019, Deacon Oliver transitioned from this earthly life to be with the Lord.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Jenny O. Hunter.

He leaves fond memories and a legacy of love that will  be cherished by his daughter, Malinda (Michael) Oliver-Sanders; five grandchildren; four siblings, Reverend Fenison Oliver, Jr. of Atlanta, GA, and Deacon Johnny Oliver, Sr., Andrew Oliver, and Karen Oliver all of Albany, GA; brother-in-law, Deacon Richard Hunter of Vero Beach, FL; aunts, Polly Cherry of Albany, GA and Louise McIntyre of Canton,  OH; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends  His presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
