Obituary

Nethema Anthony Brown, daughter of the late William and Leila Anthony, was born in Calhoun County, Georgia on October 30, 1933. She was the sixth child of eight sisters and brothers.

Growing up in Arlington, Georgia, she attended the public schools of Calhoun County and was active in numerous school functions and activities.

From a very early age, she was nurtured in the Word of God. As a youth, she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and united with the Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church in Arlington, Georgia. Through the years, she served faithfully as an usher and a member of the choir. In later years, she continued her Christian fellowship at the Union Missionary Baptist Church until her demise. Nethema was a strong woman of faith, prayer, courage, and conviction who stood boldly for the cause of Christ.

She was united in marriage to her beloved Joe Brown and they were blessed with a loving and caring family. As a wife and mother, Nethema was a persistent, hardworking woman who ate not the bread of idleness. After her husband's demise, she moved her family to Albany where she held several positions prior to her employment as a dietician in the Food Service Department of Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. In January 1998, she retired after rendering more than 30 years of loyal and dedicated service.

"Nee, Aunt Nee, Momma, and G-Mama" as she was affectionately called, was loving, giving, and willing to help anyone in need. One of her finest qualities was gratitude. She was always grateful for every good thing that came her way. Despite many challenges throughout her life—the loss of her husband Joe, the passing of her sons, Charlie (2010) and Eddie (2015), Nethema's faith never faltered. She continued to carry the joy of the Lord in her heart and shared her calm spirit and kindness with those around her.

On Sunday, March 11, 2018, she peacefully transitioned from the cares of this life to her heavenly home with the Lord.

Left to cherish her legacy and loving memory are four children, Rethema Brown, Nethema Brown, and Easter McDaniel all of Albany, GA, and Joseph Brown of Rockdale, ME; twin sisters, Inell Gaines of Albany, GA and Onell Simpson of Jacksonville, FL; a devoted and loving sister-in-law, Susan Anthony of Monticello, NY; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends.
