IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Odessa Childs
Green
May 14, 1931 – June 12, 2017
Odessa Childs Green was born on May 14, 1931, in Baker County, Georgia. She was the daughter of the late Henry and Arry Childs.
During the early years of her life, she attended the public schools of Baker County and participated in various school functions and activities.
Throughout her childhood, Odessa was nurtured in the word of God. As a youth, she began her fellowship with Christ at the Weldon Springs Baptist Church where she served faithfully until her demise. Odessa was a woman who was strong in faith, in character, and in wisdom. She was a vessel whose faith in God never wavered for she was deeply rooted and ground in the Lord.
After meeting and marrying the love of her life, Jim Green, they moved to Albany, Georgia. Their union stood the test of time, endured through the years, and was blessed with six children. As a wife and mother, she was diligent in caring for the needs of her family and ate not the bread of idleness. Over the years, she taught her children the value of hard work as she labored tirelessly at Coats and Clark of Albany. In 1990, she retired after many years of loyal and dedicated service.
Devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, caring sister, nurturing aunt, reliable cousin, and compassionate friend. Odessa was a good natured, generous lady with a big heart and a pleasure to be around. She believed deeply in unconditional love, enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and delighted in helping others—never asking anything in return. In her family, she was the "calm in the storm—the glue that held them together." Her devotion and love for her family and friends; her commitment to her church and community, and her friendliness and kindness to all people are lasting tributes to the beauty of her heart and soul. Odessa's presence and culinary treasures will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to have known her.
On Monday, June 12, 2017, her earthly journey ended when she answered the Master's call to come home. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jim Green; four children, Glenn Green, Barbara Taylor, Vinson C. Green, and Jimmie L. Green; and four siblings, Walter Childs, Sr., Henry Childs, Sr., Helen Childs, and Ruby Lee Bowen.
She leaves to mourn her passing and cherish her fond memories two loving children, Larry T. Green and Pamela Green Wiggs; two daughters-in-law, Valerie Green and Ruth Green; six sisters, Eunice Lawrence, Ora Lee Gadson, Rosetta C. Lamb, Johnny Mae Green, Betty Dennis, and Margaret (Fred) Works; seven grandchildren, Deadrick (Carrie) Taylor, Deadrick (Rashonda) Lingo, Kaysha L. Green, Brian (Whitney) Green, Chiquita (Jermaine) Glasgow, Brandon Brown, and Dandrell (Sophia) Wiggs; 17 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.
