Minister Ples Mitchell, Jr. was born March 31, 1939, in Monticello, Florida. He was the second and only son of six children in the union of the late Ples Mitchell, Sr. and Ola Mae Mitchell Andrews.
He received his formal education in the Jefferson County Florida School System. Throughout school, Ples was an adventurous young man with a zeal for new experiences and was actively involved in many student activities and events.
On July 21, 1962, 2les was united in marriage to his life-long mate, Alberta. His love for her was unmatched—she was the sparkle in his eyes, the beat in his heart, and the air that he breathed. In 1969, they moved to Miami, Florida where they built a life together and a home filled with love and strong family values. He was an awesome husband and father who took great care in providing for his family though his employment as a pool contractor with Paradise Pools. No matter what the task, he was a loyal employee who worked untiringly and retired after rendering more than 30 years of dedicated service.
Ples' love for God and the church began as a young boy growing up in a home in which the Lord was reverenced and worshipped. After moving to Miami, he united with Greater New Macedonia Baptist Church served faithfully in numerous capacities. Strong in faith, in character, and in wisdom, Ples heeded the Master's call into the ministry and engaged faithfully in studying the whole counsel of God while teaching and preaching to all who would hear. Upon relocating to Albany, Georgia in 2006, he united with Blue Springs Baptist Church and continued to serve the Lord for the rest of his life.
Minister Mitchell loved life, was deeply committed to his family, He dearly loved his family, and openly welcomed people into his life, treating them like family. Those who knew him would agree that he was a man of his word, feared God and kept his commandments, offered sage advice, stood ready to lend a listening ear, and was someone you could always count on. He was a dedicated Man of God whose life was a light that will forever shine brightly.
On September 27, 2021, Minister Mitchell transitioned from this earthly life to eternal peace and rest with the Lord. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Liller Hodges. Although his parting leaves a void, we rejoice in Philippians 1:21, "For me to live is Christ, and to die is gain"
