Obituary

Preston Williams, Jr. was born June 10, 1947, in Buffalo, New York.  He was one of two children in the union of the late Robbie and Preston Williams, Sr.

An extremely ambitious individual, Preston began his career in the transportation industry as a truck driver.  He later joined the ranks of bus drivers with the Albany Transit System.  For more than 30 years, he skillfully navigated the streets of the city with an innate sense of direction and with great pride in his work.  Upon retirement, he was hailed as a great people person and an incredible driver with the uncanny ability to talk to anyone about anything.  Never satisfied with idleness after retirement, Preston re-entered the workforce as a driver for Albany State University's Transportation Department where he became a favorite among the staff and student body.  He was totally committed to the "Rams" and always gave his BEST.

Preston was united in marriage to Mercedes Williams and they were blessed with loving children.  Family meant the world to him and the coming together, happiness, and their well-being outweighed anything else.

Often referred to as a man with a big heart and outstretched hands, Preston gave so much of himself and expected nothing in return.   His personality was larger than life and he always had a smile and stories to tell.  The strong bonds of friendship that he developed through the years will forever be remembered.

Preston faced the sunset of his earthly journey on December 14, 2021. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Freddie Williams; his brother, Fletcher Williams, Sr.; aunt and uncle, Ruby McClain and Claude Williams; and his cousin, Johnnie Williams.

Loving memories will forever be treasured by his children, Angela Williams-Shavers (Greg), Victoria Williams-Bullock (Dario), Ronald Williams, Bennie English (Sandra), Stephanie Holloway, Kimberly Candidate-Hall, Shannon Burns-Cox (Michael), Mortimer Porter, Courtney White (James), Daphne Mack, Jermaine Lewis, Kenneth Willingham, Da'Marcia King, and Tramethus James; numerous grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

"For, brethren, ye have been called unto; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.                         Galatians 5:13
