Deacon R.T. Lawson was born in Mitchell County Georgia, the son of the late Jeffery Lawson Sr. and Carrie D. Lawson. He attended Oakridge High School until the eighth grade. Married in Holy matrimony to Hazel Banks in 1953 for 55 years. This union produced seven children. In Deacon Lawson's early years, he pitched and played baseball for the Bridgeboro Tigers. He began working with Taylor's Cotton Gin and Warehouse and remained dedicated for the next 60 years. At the age of 8, he joined Mitchel Grove Baptist Church and was ordained as a Deacon in 1955. In his later years: he was the Adult Sunday School Teacher, a member of the NAACP for eight years, a Civil Rights Activist marching with Dr. Martin Luther King in Moultrie and Albany, GA and a member of the Prince Hall Masonic Fraternity Incorporated. Many knew him as 'slim', but lovingly and affectionately, he was called 'Uncle T'. We knew him as daddy.
