IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Raymond Lee
Walker, Sr.
January 25, 1940 – March 14, 2021
Raymond Lee Walker, son of the late Lewis Walker and Georgia Mae Mathis Walker, was born in Albany, Georgia on January 25, 1940.
During the early years of his life, he was educated in the Dougherty County School System.
On October 12, 1960, Raymond married the love of his life and soul-mate, Mary Alice Goodman. They shared a love and a devotion to one another that spanned a period of 60 years and was unshakeable. Raymond was a committed husband, proud father and grandfather, and hard working man who cherished his family. Over the years, he worked tirelessly to provide unconditionally for his family and to ensure their happiness and well-being. He began his career as a cook at the Albany Naval Air Station and maintained employment with them for numerous years. From there, he transitioned to employment with Flint Beverage Company where he worked through the ranks to a salesman position in record time. Raymond knew how to get the job done and gave his BEST, no matter what the task. He retired after rending 30 years of loyal service.
Although Raymond possessed a strong work ethic, he truly enjoyed his down time. He had an unquenchable passion for fishing and it was nothing for him to brave the waters of the Flint with friends to show off his angling skills—which usually netted an enormous catch. Because of his unmatched skills and tenacity, he was known as "Lake the Fisherman" by fellow anglers near and far. Raymond had a spirit of kindness and generosity and would also share his catch with family and friends which often resulted in impromptu gatherings for a backyard fish fry. His love was boundless and he never missed an opportunity to spend time with family, friends, and neighbors who were paramount in his life.
Having professed his faith and belief in Christ Jesus, Raymond united with the Greater Second Mt. Olive Baptist Church in June 1999, under the leadership of Reverend Lorenzo L. Heard. He dearly loved the Lord and remained prayerful in his daily walk. He was straight-forward, unpretentious, and strong-willed; but he was also the voice of calm and humility. He will long be remembered by all who knew and loved him dearly.
On March 14, 2021, Raymond transitioned from this earthly life to eternal peace and rest. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four siblings, Ruby Mae Goodman, Lewis Walker, Jr., Norma Grace Walker, and William Frank Walker.
Loving memories will forever be cherished by his beloved wife, Mary Alice Walker of Albany, GA; his children, Versita Shaw, Kevin Walker, Raymond (Barbara) Walker, Jr., Valerie Washington, Phyllis (Roderick Sr.) Weaver, and Greta (Benny) Sisroe all of Albany, GA, and Gregory (Benita) Walker of Macon, GA; siblings, Hilda Whearry, Gloria (Leo) Cauley, and Linda Walker all of Albany, GA; fourteen grandchildren and twenty-seven great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
