Obituary

The journey of life for Robert L. Brantley began on March 26, 1935, in Sasser, Georgia.  He was the beloved son of the late Edward and Redesser Brantley.

He received his early childhood and secondary education in the Terrell County School System. Throughout his school years, Robert was an exceptionally inquisitive and talented young man who garnered much from his educational experiences and co-curricular activities.

Robert had the great privilege of growing up in a Christian home where he was taught to love and revere God, and the value of living a life of integrity and loving kindness.  His teachings kept him grounded and humble through every season of his life.

On July 6, 1956, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Jimmie Ruth Weston who preceded him in death.  Together, they embarked on an adventure of a lifetime filled with love, respect, and  commitment to each other.  For more than 67 years, Robert proved to be a true anchor to his wife and children while supporting them in all of their endeavors.  As a husband and father, he ate not the bread of idleness and always sacrificed his needs for the good of his family.  He was an exceptionally persistent, conscientious employee at Flint River Textiles who took great pride in the services he rendered.  During his  38-year tenure, he never shied away from a challenge; constantly worked to exceed department goals; and always gave his best—no matter what the task. Blessed with gifted hands, Robert was also a phenomenal, self-taught mechanic. His professional ethics, workmanship, and expertise yielded him the reputation of being "top notch" in automotive service and repair.

Robert's life was truly well-lived!  He was deeply devoted to his family and friends; provided love and support to anyone in need; never met a stranger; and always found a silver lining in every situation.  To know him was to dearly love him.

On February 1, 2025, Robert L. Brantley transitioned from this earthly journey to eternal peace and rest.  In addition to his parents and his beloved wife, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Dorothy Cheatham.

Cherished memories will forever remain in the hearts of his children, Willie Jean Grier of Dawson, GA, Deacon Roy (Teletrice) Brantley, Cedric (Regina) Brantley, Teresa Williams, and Kwanis (Michael) Brantley-Malone all of Albany, GA, James (Carrie) Brantley of Tallahassee, FL, Antonio Brantley of Augusta, GA,  Sondra (Patrick) Lee of Jacksonville, FL, and Shartia Brantley (Musa) of New York; his sister, Rubie Dean Marshall of Albany, GA; a myriad of grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
