Obituary

On July 19, 1940 in Sylvania, Screven County, GA, Brother Robert G. Jolly, Jr. was born in a home full of love and warmth to the late Mildred Burgest Jolly and the late Robert G. Jolly, Sr.

While still a youth, his family relocated to Moultrie, GA and established a home where Jesus and Christian values were the center of their lives. In Robert's daily walk of life, he made his love and strong faith in Christ known to all that he encountered; his conversations exemplified his knowledge of the Bible. People, near and far, were in awe of his powerful and uplifting prayers. Robert was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Daniel Simmons where he served as a faithful member of the Greeters Ministry until his health began to fail. Even though he couldn't physically attend church he looked forward to watching virtual Wednesday Night Bible Study and Sunday Morning Church Service.

Robert was educated in the segregated schools of Colquitt County, GA where he was a graduate of Moultrie High School for Negro Youth. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army and received an Honorable Discharge at the end of his tour of duty. After returning to Moultrie, he sought employment with various companies. In 1973, he became gainfully employed as a Technician with Proctor & Gamble, Albany, GA where he remained until his retirement on June 16, 1999 after 26 years of faithful service.

Our dear Robert G. Jolly, Jr. wore many hats and was known by many names. To his wife, he was Bobby Jolly; Pops and Dad is how his children referred to him; his grandchildren called him Granddaddy; Morgan, Malea and Hannah, his bonus grandkids, called him Bobba; Bob Jolly is the name his former co-workers referred to him as. He possessed a love for wood-working and would spend hours in his workshop/mancave working on projects; reading books, especially the Bible, watching his favorite TV shows and working on crossword puzzles.

Bobby Jolly's life changed for better on October 16, 1999 when he married the love of his life, the former Joanne Smith. He was blessed with bonus children: Tamika, Wilson and Jason who loved him immensely.

On Thursday, August 11, 2022 at 5:53 am at Willson Hospice House, Albany, GA, the legacy of Robert G. Jolly, Jr. came to an end with his devoted wife by his side. He lived a long and productive life full of love, joy and some sorrow to the seasoned age of 82. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his children, Kayla Akins, Mildred Jolly Williams, Elizabeth Jolly and Wilson T. Tolbert; grandson, Theonis Wright, Jr.; siblings, Alfred Burgest, Jonas Jolly, Emmitt Jolly, Amos Jolly, Edith Reed and Joyce Jolly; mother-in-law, Hattie Mae Smith and brother-in-law, Larry Smith.
