IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Robert Dean
Mathis
January 5, 1953 – November 22, 2022
Robert Dean Mathis was born in Albany. Georgia on January 5, 1953. He was the beloved son of Maggie Mathis Riggins and the late Frank Nixon.
He received his early childhood and secondary education in the Dougherty County School System, graduating from Dougherty High School in 1971. Throughout school, Robert was a bright, jovial young man who garnered much from his educational experiences.
Robert was a very persistent and ambitious individual whose work ethics developed early as he engaged in numerous diverse work experiences for several years. After becoming employed with Dougherty County Public Works, he soon realized that he had found his "niche" and true calling. For more than 20 years, he was a loyal, conscientious worker who loved a challenge and could be relied on by everyone to get the job done.
Endearingly known as "Feeloc" by many, Robert had an endless reservoir of love for family and friends. He was extremely devoted to his mother and was diligent in caring for her well-being. Family relationships were vital to Freeloc and a source of great joy and fellowship. Although he did not have children of his own, he was a father figure for his nieces and nephews. Freely he showered them with unconditional love, generously provided for their needs, was a vital part of their lives; and he left a permanent impression in their hearts. Robert was very generous, enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and loved helping others. He will truly be missed by all who had the privilege of being a part of his life.
While a patient at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, Robert accepted Christ as his personal Savior and received water baptism on November 16. On November 22, 2022, he peacefully transitioned from this earthly life to his eternal resting place. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his brother, Reverend Joseph Riggins.
Loving memories will forever be cherished by his mother, Maggie Riggins; siblings, Eddie (Valerie) Riggins, William Riggins, and Connie Mathis; sister-in-law, Anne Riggins; numerous beloved nieces, nephews, and a great nephew; and a host of extended family and friends.
