Obituary

After toiling in this earthly vineyard, Robert "Duke" Taylor accepted God's invitation to come home for a much needed rest. He told him to let not his heart be troubled, for he had prepared a home for him. When he could no longer fight the afflictions and pain that haunted his body, Robert stepped onto the road of immortality. He realized that this time, God did not give him a temporary healing. He did not have to pick up his bed and walk any longer in an imperfect body. Instead, on May 3, 2017, at 10:54 PM, Duke received a complete healing. He put off mortality for immortality. In his transformation, he became a new creature.

Robert, born April 18, 1957 in Brooklyn, New York, was the oldest of seven children born to Louise Fulmore Williams, who preceded him in death. His father, Robert Taylor, also preceded him in death. Ask anyone what is remembered most about Robert, and the response will always be his contagious smile. He had a sense of humor that his sisters and brothers all had experienced. Whenever something was said that caused a little jesting between them, he always had a comical response waiting. Laughter made him unique and special. His aunts and uncles remember his respectfulness and gentle spirit. Robert knew there was a God. He confessed his belief in Christ as a young man under Reverend John L. Spark at Zion Grove Baptist Church in Sylvester, Georgia. In the last weeks of his illness, he spoke of God's mercy and grace to him. He knew without a doubt that many times he had received favor from the Lord, and he did not hesitate to tell others.

Robert leaves in celebration of his life two sons, Tavoya (Tasha) Clyde of Albany, GA and Robert (Shawn) Jones of Atlanta, GA; four sisters, Linda (Larry) Loper, Tina Taylor, and Imogene (Lawrence) Shy of Morrisville, PA, and Gerri Renee Taylor of Ashburn, A; two brothers, James (Diane) Taylor of Ashburn, GA and Alphonzo (Heather) Taylor of Chandler, AZ; one god-sister, Diane Mose of Trenton, NJ; three aunts, Betty Lewis, Anita Tunstall, and Mamie Fulmore of Albany, GA; two uncles, Leonard L. Fulmore and Narvin Tunstall of Albany, GA; three special friends, Patricia Brown of Trenton, NJ, Loraine Clyde of Albany, GA, and Arthur May of Ashburn, GA; 11 grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.

Today, Robert rests with God, and that infectious smile is making the angels sing songs of joy and peace.

Robert would remind us

that the clock of time strikes but once for each of us;

and none has the power to know where the hands will stop,

nor do we know the hour. Let us always be ready.
He was!
