IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Robert Lynn
Westbrook
July 17, 1961 – November 23, 2022
Robert Lynn Westbrook was born in Albany, Georgia on July 17, 1961. He was the fifth of eight children in the union of George and Mary Westbrook.
He was educated in the Dougherty County School System, graduating from Westover High School in 1969. Throughout school, Robert was a lively, strong-willed young man who was always ready for adventure and actively participated in various student organizations, activities, and events. In later years, he attended flight school and vocational/technical school where he completed requirements for certification in radiologic technology and computer information technology.
As a youth, Robert accepted Christ as his Savior and united with Union Missionary Baptist Church. He dearly loved the Lord and remained prayerful throughout life's journey.
Believing strongly in loyalty and commitment to his country, Robert enlisted in the United States Navy where he served with distinction. The discipline and patriotism he learned in the Navy never left him, as family and friends and attest. He received numerous awards and commendations as he advanced in the military ranks. At the close of his six-year tour of duty, he received and honorable discharge and returned home to civilian life.
Robert's professional work life was very diverse and rewarding. For numerous years, he was a dedicated employee at Delco Remy Mfg., radiology technician at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, and a self-employed computer engineer. Robert was a very industrious, hard-working individual who poured himself into his work—giving his best no matter what the task. Although these work experiences proved to be most worthwhile, Robert had a keen interest in "big rigs" and the transportation industry which stirred him to change careers. He became an over-the-road transportation specialist with various trucking companies, including Dart Trucking, Minstar Trucking, and Marten Trucking. He took pride in his driving skills and as a result, was recognized for driving thousands of miles accident free for over 17 years.
Lynn, as he was affectionately called by family and friends, was a very perceptive, informed, good natured, easy going, and generous man who was a joy to be around. He had a special way of getting to know people and becoming an important part of their lives. Over the years, he made many lasting friendships and will be sorely missed.
On November 23, 2022, Robert peacefully transitioned from this earthly life at the Bethany Hospice House in Auburn, Alabama. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two siblings, Brenda Joyce White and Anthony Westbrook
