Obituary

Roosevelt Roberts, Sr. was born on September 30, 1938, in Leesburg, Georgia. He was the son of the late Ike Roberts, Sr. and Ira Rhodes Roberts.

He received his formal education in the public schools of Lee County where he was active in numerous school functions and activities.

Very early in life, he accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and united with the Jordan Grove Missionary Baptist Church of Lee County. In later years, he fellowshipped with various churches in Albany and surrounding counties.

Roosevelt was ambitious in all that he did. As a young man, he was deeply rooted in the soil and developed an unquenchable passion for farming which evolved into becoming his first independent work venture that lasted numerous years. Although farming brought him much joy, Roosevelt's resourcefulness and mechanical skills steered him to employment as a Technician with Albany Lincoln Mercury. No matter what the task, he looked upon each of them with equal importance. He gave his ALL until he retired after more than 30 years of loyal service.

In 1996, he was united in holy matrimony to his beloved Lucy Jean Roberts and they shared 23 memorable years together. He was a dedicated an caring father who loved his children and grandchildren dearly.

"Roadie" as he was affectionately called by family and friends, was a quiet but strong man. He was generous, kind, respectful, well respected, and made a difference in many lives. He was a friend you could depend on and he was always ready to help in any way that he could. He will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.

On Thursday, June 14, 2018, Roadie answered his final call and entered into eternal rest. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Nathan, Ike, J. C., and Jim Roberts.

Loving memories will forever be cherished by his devoted wife, Lucy Jean Roberts; his children, Willie B. Roberts and Roosevelt Roberts, Jr. of Albany, GA, Bernice White of Miami, FL; Eva (Jeffery) Clements, Shirley Kegler, Ella Roberts, Linda F. (Jeff) Williams, Althia Martin, Linda (John) Fillingame, and Brandi (Chris) Martin all of Albany, GA; sisters, Dorabelle Thomas, Mattie Lunsford, Clara Johnson, and Eva Lee Edison; four sisters-in-law, Julia Roberts, Iola Milledge, Arlie Milledge, and Alice Robinson; 16 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family, and friends.
