IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Rosie Lee
Bell Givens
July 9, 1949 – June 23, 2017
Rosie Lee Bell Givens ,daughter Elizabeth Oliver Bell and the late Philmore Bell, Sr. was born on July 9, 1949, in Seminole County, Georgia.
As she sprouted and grew, she attended Seminole County Training School graduating in 1967. Her deep thirst for knowledge stirred her to continue her education at Albany State College where she was awarded the Bachelor of Science degree. Holding fast to her belief that education was vital to the betterment of people, Rosie pressed forward and obtained her Education Specialist and Doctorate degrees from Argosy University in Sarasota, Florida. She also received her Masters of Science from Alabama A&M University in Huntsville, Alabama.
Throughout her childhood, Rosie was nurtured in the word of God. As a youth, she began her journey with the Lord at Oak City Missionary Baptist Church where she served faithfully. In later years, she continued her walk with Christ at the Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church. She was a prayerful member who was strong in faith, in character, and in wisdom as evidenced in her service as a Sunday School teacher, Deaconess, Evangelism Team member, Intercessor, and Program Director of Whiz Kidz. Even during times when physical limitations slowed Deaconess Givens' stride, nothing could separate her from the love of God.
After meeting the love of her life Charlie R. Givens, Sr. while attending Albany State, they were united in holy matrimony on December 22, 1979. Through this union they became the loving and devoted parents of two children—Charlie Jr. and Elizabeth. As a wife and mother, Deaconess Givens' consecrated commitment to her family was the cornerstone of who she was.
Deaconess Givens was blessed to have had a profound professional career that spanned a period of 38 years. As a middle grades science teacher, she was relentless in guiding and inspiring students in schools throughout Central and Southwest Georgia, including Southside Middle School in Dougherty County. Her professional career was marked by the highest level of teaching excellence; and as a result, she received numerous awards and accolades, including the esteemed title of Teacher of the Year.
Over the years, Deaconess Givens had many interests and passions that she was always busy pursuing . She was an active member of the Beta Omega Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. and the Order of Eastern Stars—Cromartie Beach Chapter Lodge 128 of Albany. Deaconess Givens was a good natured, generous lady with a big heart and a pleasure to be around. She believed deeply in unconditional love, enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and delighted in helping others—never asking anything in return. Her devotion and love for her family and friends; her commitment to her church and community, and her friendliness and kindness to all people are lasting tributes to the beauty of her heart and soul. Her favorite pastime was bowling.
On Friday, June 23, 2017, God saw fit to bring Deaconess Givens' earthly journey to a close and transitioned her to eternal rest. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charlie R. Givens, Sr.
