Obituary

Rufus Davis was born on April 3, 1950, in Dougherty County, Georgia.  He was the beloved son of the late Nancy Lee Davis and John Lee Davis, Sr.

He attended the public schools of Dougherty County, including Monroe High School where he was  involved in numerous school organizations and activities.

Throughout his childhood, Rufus was nurtured in the Word of God.  At the age of 12, he professed his faith and belief in Christ and united with the Third Kiokee Missionary Baptist Church.  He served faithfully in various capacities in the church for numerous years.  On November 9, 2011, he united with the River Road Church of Christ (now Church of Christ at Gaines Avenue).  He was a devoted servant of the Lord and his faith never wavered.

Rufus was ambitious in all that he did.  From a young age while teetering alongside his father, he developed an unquenchable passion for tile-setting that endured throughout his lifetime.  Over the years, he labored tirelessly as a tile-setter assistant at J. L. Davis Tile Setters until becoming disabled.  No matter what the assignment, he looked upon each task with equal importance and prided himself in a job well done.

Often described as a people's person, Rufus was a good natured, generous man with a big heart and a pleasure to be around.  He enjoyed sharing stories, engaging people in hours of endless conversation, and spending time with his family and friends.

He leaves to celebrate the memories of his life four siblings, Johnny Lee (Gloria) Davis of Jonesboro, GA, and Patricia Ann Davis, Dianne Oliver, and Saundrette Davis Moody all of Albany, GA; three nephews, Roderick Oliver, Phillip (Duane) Davis, and Willie Moody, Jr.; one niece, Shenita (Elijah) Granberry; great nieces and nephew, Ivory Granberry, Skylar Davis, and Ebron Davis; a loving aunt, Ruth Marable of Boston, GA; three stepsisters, Carolyn Edwards, Beverlyn Clark, and Shirley Crooms; an a host of cousins, extended family, and friends.
