Obituary

Rufus May, son of the late Albert May, Sr. and Ethel Ree May, was born in Albany, Georgia on July 31, 1960.

He received his early childhood and secondary education in the Dougherty County School System. Throughout school, he was actively involved in various student organizations, activities, and events.

Rufus had multiple  interests during his life that spilled over from the classroom into his professional career.  He was a skilled carpenter and roofer by trade; but he also had a deep passion for farming.  Over the years he worked diligently to ensure that his work was  flawless and dedicated to the needs of the people he served.  Rufus knew the meaning of hard work and there wasn't anything that he couldn't do or wouldn't try.

Devoted father and grandfather, unfailing brother and uncle, committed cousin, and loyal friend, "Kreme" as he was endearingly called, embraced life with open arms.  His gigantic smile, engaging personality, and common logic touched the lives of family and friends in a very special way.  Even in the midst of health challenges, he always remained positive and patient.  His heart was filled with compassion, care, and love for all mankind and his life was a light that will forever shine brightly.

On December 11, 2022 after a lengthy battle with cancer, Rufus was called to eternal rest and peace. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five siblings, Eddie Dean May, Mary Nell Williams, Evelyn Mosley, Albert Gene May, and Belinda Gatson.

Loving memories will forever be cherished by his son, Terrance (Step) Billings; siblings, Willie (Sharon) Lanier, Roy (Andrea) May, Annie (Terry) Burks, and M. C. May all of Albany, GA, and Darrun (Latasha) May of Dawson, GA; brother-in-law, Willie Gatson; sister-in-law, Glenda May; grandchildren, Amarion, Shanyce, Trenisha, and Terrance Jr.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.
