Obituary

Samuel Riggins was born in Albany, Georgia on November 17, 1947.

He was the beloved son of the late Reverend Seth Riggins, Sr. and Gussie Crafton Riggins.

He received his early childhood and secondary education in the Dougherty County School System, including Monroe High School.

Throughout his school years, Samuel was an exceptionally inquisitive young man who loved learning and was often among the first to arrive at school.

Growing up in a strong Christian home, Samuel was taught the Word of God and the importance of living a life of strong character and loving kindness. He, along with his parents, were among the founders of Institutional First Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Dr. E. G. Sherman, Jr. He humbly assisted his mother in keeping the sanctuary tidy on a regular basis.

Samuel was a "homebody" yet an adventurous young man who loved exploring, going on adventures, and finding the joy in life. In 1963, he
journeyed to the nation's capitol to attend the March on Washington which proved to be one of his most memorable experiences.

Afterwards, he moved to New Jersey with his sister where he sought to further broaden his horizons and open up world to the wonders of this
great earth. Regardless of where he went, he always found his way back to Albany, his home, and where he spent his final days. Samuel loved his family dearly and was fiercely protective of them. He was an incredible brother, a loving uncle, a devoted cousin, and an unforgettable friend who loved unconditionally and was content with the simple joys in life. His sense of humor, adventurous spirit, determination to accomplish goals, and strong-willed nature will long be remembered by all who had the privilege of being a part of his life.

On June 20, 2024, Samuel transitioned from this earthly life at the Willson Hospice House. In addition to his parents, he was preceded
in death by two siblings, Carolyn Faye Holsey and Julius Riggins.

Cherished memories will forever remain in the hearts of his siblings, Fannie Riggins Lassiter, Seth (Bernice) Riggins Jr., Joni (Carlton) Cash, and Adrian (Angela) Riggins; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.
