IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sarah Y.
King
May 13, 1928 – November 5, 2020
Sarah Yancey King was born in Acree, Georgia on May 13, 1928. She was the beloved daughter of the late Vest and Myrt Yancey.
During the early years of her life, she was educated in the Worth County School System.
Sarah was raised in a Christian home where she was taught the Word of God and the importance of living a life of integrity, strong character, and kindness. As a youth, she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and began her walk with the Lord at Mount Holder Baptist Church. She later continued her Christian journey at New Provisor Baptist Church where she remained a devout member until her health declined. Over the years, she availed herself to unparalleled commitment and service as she continued in Christian stewardship. "Ms. Sarah and Mother King" as she was endearingly called by many, was a prayer warrior who was strong in faith, in character, and in wisdom. She was a shining example of humility and respect, and God's love for all mankind was manifested through her deeds and actions.
On September 14, 1944, she was united in marriage to her life-long mate, Ollie King. Together, they embarked on a life filled with love and true devotion to each other. As a wife and mother, she ate not the bread of idleness and provided unconditionally for her family. For numerous years, she was employed with the Dougherty County School System. She later joined the ranks of employees at Coats & Clark where she worked untiringly until her retirement in 1989.
Blessed beyond measure, Mother King lived a rich and rewarding life; reached the hallowed age of 92; and lived to see generations of her off-springs with whom she left a legacy of love, humility, generosity, and godliness. She had a servant's heart and took great pride in using her God-given talents to help others. To the hungry, she offered food; to the sick, she offered compassion; to the broken hearted, she offered consolation, and to the lost, she offered hope and guidance. She will be remembered by many as an unselfish servant with a sweet spirit.
On November 5, 2020, Mother King transitioned from this earthly life to eternal rest. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her loving husband, Ollie King; and nine siblings, Margaret Yancey Bailey, Clara Yancey Roberts, Essie Yancey Alexander, Minnie Yancey Hall, Mattie Street Bradford, Joe Lee Yancey, Sr., Clarence Yancey, Collie Yancey, Sr., and Grady Yancey, Sr.
She leaves cherished memories that will forever remain with her daughter, Delphine D. King (Willie); grandchildren, Tameka L. King-Brown (Eric) and Terry T. King, Jr.; great-grandchildren, Yasmin V. Collins, Elizabeth G. Yocum, and Anterrico L. Brown; two sisters, Eula Mae Yancey Roberts and Willie Mae Yancey Hill; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.
