IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Scott Dawson,
Sr.
December 24, 1958 – August 8, 2025
Scott Dawson, Sr., affectionally known as "Jelly Roll", was born December 24, 1958, in Albany, Georgia to the late J. D. Dawson and Annie Edwards Dawson. He was the youngest of 12 children.
Scott was a product of the Dougherty County School System and a 1977 graduate of Monroe Comprehensive High School. After graduation, Scott worked at Bob's Candies, and left Albany for Detroit, Michigan to begin his career as a Professional Cook, Caterer, and Landscaper with his brother Perry Dawson.
Scott joined First Bethesda Baptist Church in 1992.
Scott was a lover of music (jazz and funk) and was said to be the best drummer to come out of Monroe Comprehensive High School. He loved sports, spending his time watching his favorite football teams, the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Michigan Wolverines. After the football season ended, he watched tennis players Serena Williams and Coca Gauff shine.
Scott retired early and spent his time coaching the Robert Cross Middle School Academic Bowl Team. His coaching skills led them all the way to the National Championships in Washington, DC and Chicago, IL.
Scott was a great son, brother, husband, father, and friend. He would visit his sick friends and family, offering them care and love. He was lively, and there was never a dull moment when you were around him. He will truly be missed by all.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by six siblings, J. D. Dawson, Jr., Perry Dawson, Calvin Dawson Sr., Eugene Dawson Sr., Andrew Dawson and Annie Dawson Christian.
Cherished memories will forever remain with his loving wife, Robin Delisa Randle of Albany, GA; his son Scott Dawson Jr. of Winston-Salem, NC. Daughter Natasha Gervin and granddaughter Skylar Gervin of Albany, GA. Daughters LaShonta Sams and Dominique Dawson of Detroit, MI. His siblings, Delia Dawson Jefferson, Lillie Pearl Dawson Kegler, Julia Mae Dawson, Anita Dawson Brown and Pastor Willie L Dawson (Ruth). One aunt, Sally Edwards Parks. He also leaves a host of truly great friends, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
