Obituary
Shawn Whitfield, son of Delores Whitfield and the late Jimmy Lee Jackson, was born on April 19 1972, in Albany, Georgia.
During the early years of his life, he attended the public schools of Dougherty County where he was active in numerous school functions.
Shawn believed strongly in loyalty and commitment to his county. He enlisted in the United States Army where he served as a Machinist. He was stationed throughout the United States and abroad, and received numerous commendations as served with distinction and advanced to the rank of E-F Sergeant. At the close of his 12-year tour of duty, he was honorably discharged and returned home to civilian life and employment.
Devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and loyal friend, Shawn was a very outgoing person who garnered much from his life experiences. His love for family and friends was infinite and he cherished each moment spent with them. He had an engaging personality; gigantic heart, and a very welcoming spirit. The strong bonds of friendship that he developed through the years will forever be remembered.
Shawn's earthly journey ended on Monday, January 8, 2017. In addition to his father, he was predeceased by his grandmother, Clara Whitfield.
He leaves to mourn his passing and cherish fond memories his wife, Sabrina Whitfield of Germany; mother, Delores Whitfield; children, Tashae Cherry and Rashaad Cherry of Albany, GA, Xavier Whitfield of Texas, Shyan Johnson of Alabama, and Jasmine Whitfield of Georgia; siblings, Reginald Whitfield, Roosevelt (Glennis) Whitfield, and Michael (April) Whitfield of Albany, GA; five grandchildren of Albany, GA; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.
