Shirley Ann Burns was born on August 24, 1957 in Camilla, GA. to Mr. J.W. and Cora Bell Burns as one of three children. After several years in Camilla, the family moved to Baconton and finally settled in Albany (Dougherty County). A vivacious and spirited young woman, Ms. Shirley matriculated in the Mitchell County School System where she graduated in 1976.
Ms. Shirley furthered her career at Albany Technical College in Nursing as a Certified Nursing Assistant. She worked at Palmyra Nursing Home for years and ventured in catering.
Ms. Shirley Ann was a fighter in spirit whose tenacity assisted her in overcoming a stroke she suffered in 2014. As a result, she was assisted by the staff at Pruitt Health Nursing Home in Sylvester, GA. Ms. Shirley maintained a gregarious spirt though her arduous battle and transitioned from this life on January 27, 2018 surrounded by love ones.
She is survived by a sister, Ophelia Winchester; her daughters, Vashita Burns & Courtney Burns; & son, Corey Burns. She had 5 grandchildren, Cor-Moni Burns (Daytona, FL) Ravyn & Ra'khia Burns, Ra'Korion Grant, and Ra'Quel Nelson. She had several nieces, nephews, and a host of family and friends.
Those who preceded her in death included both her parents, her brother, Sylvester Bonapart and Sister, Linda Burns. Askew.
Ms. Shirley's sparkle has not diminished, it has only moved to a higher plane. Let us not cry about her journey away from this realm, let us celebrate her life and legacy.
