Sidney L. Thomas, Jr.

Sidney L. Thomas, Jr., affectionately known to many as “Shot Doctor,” died on September 23, 2026, at the age of 78.

Born on May 2, 1948, Sidney carried through his life a deep and lasting connection to basketball, not only as a sport, but as a way of teaching, encouraging, and bringing people together. He was a basketball coach whose influence reached beyond the court. He loved teaching people how to play basketball, and that gift for instruction became one of the defining threads of his life. With patience, knowledge, and a clear love for the game, he helped others develop their skills and confidence, earning the nickname “Shot Doctor” from those who knew the impact he could make.

For Sidney, basketball was more than competition. It was a language of mentorship and care, and he shared it generously. Whether coaching or simply teaching others how to play, he gave his time and energy to helping people grow, one shot at a time. His nickname stood as a tribute not only to his understanding of the game, but also to the memorable presence he brought to those he taught.
