Obituary

The journey of life for Anne Hill Bailey began in Nashville, Georgia on November 3, 1938.  She was the beloved daughter of the late Henry Benjamin Hill and Mary Francis Lane Hill.

Raised in Nashville, Georgia and Chula, Georgia, she received her early childhood and secondary education in the public schools of Berrien and Tift Counties, graduating from Wilson High School. Hailing from a family that valued higher education, Ann continued her quest for knowledge in the Nursing Department at Albany State College (University). She later matriculated at Albany Area Technical School (College) where she earned an associate degree in Nursing.

Ann had the great privilege of growing up in a strong Christian home where the foundation for her walk with the Lord was laid.  Very early in life, she accepted Christ as her Savior and began her journey of Christian stewardship—devoting herself faithfully to God's purpose and His calling on her life at Second Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Chula.  After making Albany, Georgia her home, she united with the Union Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend William Boyd.  Anne was blessed with a gifted and loving spirit, and she served the Lord with her whole heart.  Over the years, she availed herself in service as a member of the #2 Choir, Nurses Aide, and Deaconess Ministry.  Her relationship with Jesus was a living one and she continued to grow in her spiritual journey as she was fed the word of God through Reverend J. A. Severson.  You could not know her without being inspired by her strong faith and convictions that allowed her to be an example for all who encountered her.

Having been totally captivated by Johnny "Bill" Bailey while a student at Albany State, a courtship ensued which resulted in Anne being joined in holy matrimony to the love of her life.  Together, they embarked on an adventure of a lifetime filled with love, respect, and commitment to each other.  Ann was a faithful and loving wife for over 40 years; and a devoted mother and grandmother who ate not the bread of idleness and often sacrificed her needs for the good of her family.  Her diligence in caring for her family was the personification of a Proverbs 31 Woman, " A wife of noble character whose worth was far above rubies...Her children rose up and called her blessed."

Anne always had a yearning to be of service and to help others.  As a result, she was blessed to have had a profound professional career that spanned more than 30 years.  As a Licensed Practical Nurse, she was relentless in serving her patients with dignity, respect, gentle strength, and true compassion.  Much of her career was spent in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Palmyra Park Hospital where she offered comfort to countless families and advocated fiercely for her patients; well-being.  For Anne, nursing was more than a job; it was a deep-seated vocation—a commitment to something much larger than herself.  Whether holding the hand of an elderly patient or mentoring a nervous new nurse, she approached every interaction with empathy and grace.  Truly, she had a natural gift for serving and making a difference in the lives of many people.

A pillar of fortitude and strength, Anne had a kind heart, a very generous spirit, and she took great pride in using her talents and skills to help others.  The words penned by the songwriter, "If I can help somebody as I travel along...then my living shall not be in vain," truly exemplified her life.  Anne had a way of looking into your soul and knowing just what you would need to make you strong.  Having the privilege of being loved by her was to know you would be loved for a lifetime.  Life was precious to her and she genuinely cherished every moment spent here on earth.

Blessed beyond measure, Anne lived a rich and rewarding life; reached the hallowed age of 86; and left a legacy of love, humility, and generosity that will forever be cherished. Anne's earthly journey ended on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, as she transitioned to be with Almighty God.  In addition to her parents and her beloved husband Bill, she was preceded in death by three siblings, Viola Griffin, Mary Faye Pitts, and Cleotha Hill.

Loving memories will forever remain with her sons, Derrick Hugo Bailey of Albany, GA and Gilchrist Allen Bailey (Alesha) of Bonaire, GA; her grandchildren, Dontavis Montrail Bailey of Leesburg, GA and Zhardae Adia Bailey of Atlanta, GA; great grandchildren, Dontavis, Jr., Dionte, Dontavia, and Dilonte all of Leesburg, GA; siblings, Mercydee Campbell (Odell), Virginia Lewis (Robert), Solomon Hill (Rushie), Sam Hill (Roberta), and Danny Hill (Christine) all of Chula, GA, and John Hill (Ann) of Miami, FL; sister-in-law, Deloris Day of Cleveland, OH; brother-in-law, Melvin Archie of Albany, GA; and wide circle of family members, friends, and former co-workers.
