Obituary

Sonja Christian Williams, daughter of the late Marjorie Williams, was born Albany, Georgia on December 22, 1961.

She was educated in the Dougherty County School System and was actively involved in numerous school functions and activities..

At an early age, Sonja began her fellowship with Christ at Arcadia Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Daniel Thomas. She was a dedicated member of the church and served faithfully as assistant secretary for Sunday School, sang beautifully in the Junior Choir, and was actively involved in the Baptist Training Union.  In later years, she continued her walk with the Lord at Greater New Morning Star Baptist Church under the guidance of Pastor McKebia D. Bray, Sr.   Sonja was steadfast in her service as a faithful member of the Sr. Mission, Pastor's Aide, and Choir Ministries—always giving God the glory and praise.

Devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Sonja was a meticulous homemaker—always busy taking care of her family. She was often described as hardworking, persistent individual who continually looked around and  wondered "why and how?"  This inquisitiveness guided her into numerous employment ventures, including detail technician at Fast Car Wash; private cook and housekeeper for Mrs. Frances Wellman; general laborer and attendant at Sunrise    Pantry, Palmyra Nursing Home, Albany Health Care, and Riley Cleaners; and personal caregiver for Richard Bishop until her demise.  No matter what the task, she gave each assignment equal importance and prided herself in a job well done.

"Momma" as she was affectionately called, was a unique and extraordinary lady.  She was witty and had a sense of humor that made her the life of the crowd; could always tell a good story and engage everyone in hours of endless conversation; was a good cook and hosted many gatherings; and she enjoyed spending time with family and friends.  Sonja had a kind heart, a verry generous spirit, and her home was a safe-haven for many who walked through her doors.  You couldn't know her without being inspired by her love and devotion to her family, friends, and community.  She will be greatly missed.

On October 22, 2020, "Momma" departed this earthly life as she slept quietly at home.  In addition to her mother, she was predeceased by her sister, Mary Beach.

She leaves fond memories that will forever remain with her children, Cedric Williams of Macon, GA, Chris Williams and LaDasha Williams of Albany, GA, Shandreka Wimbush of Tallahassee, FL, Marion Albritton and Keziah Albritton of Albany, GA, Quanterria Hagains and Xavier Owens of Greenville, SC, and her adopted son, Kentray (Redrika) Harris of Albany, GA; siblings, Brendalin      Williams (Lucious)  of Albany, GA, Elaine Beach of Greenville, SC, Sheila Beach of Columbia, SC, Patricia (Corey) Baldwin of Greenville, SC, Burnice Beach of Greenville, SC, and Jimmy Wingfield of Albany, GA; grandchildren, Rhadiant Williams, Cedric Williams, Jr., Nobel Williams, Santavia Davis,       Jasmine Gordon, Quantavious Williams, Uzziah Williams, Zion Williams, Dayvone Wimbush, Satchell Winbush, Jr., Serenity Wimbush, Cherish Albritton, Marion Albritton III, LaMarion Albritton, Mia Hagins, Ken'Nasia Harris,    Kensley Hrris, Kentrayl Harris II, Dyson Harris, and Dylon Harris; great grandchild, Ja'Varriyon Gordone; uncle and aunt, Eugene Williams and Bertha Ralph of Miami, FL; a devoted cousin, Hilda Hines; special friend, Jim Reese; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
