Sonny C. Woods was born in Houston, Texas on December 2, 1941.  He was the son of the late Willie Mae Bush and the stepson of the late Matthew Bush.  At a very early age, he accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior.

He was educated in the Houston Texas School District and participated in various school organizations and activities.

Believing strongly in loyalty and commitment to his country, Sonny enlisted in the United States Navy after graduation from high school .  He was a soldier to the ore and the discipline and patriotism he learned in the Navy never left him, as friends and family can attest.   During his  military career, he received numerous  awards and commendations as he advanced in the military ranks.  Upon completion of his final military assignment, he retired with full honors after 28 years of active duty service.  Sonny was not satisfied with idleness after his retirement; rather, he reactivated his affiliation with the Joseph A. Egans Masonic Lodge Jurisdiction of Maryland.  He was an extremely driven individual who gave his best at all times.

Sonny was united in marriage to the love of his life, Beverly White.  They shared a love that endured through the years and a devotion to one another that grew strong with time.  His love and commitment towards his family was immeasurable.  He was a dedicated father who loved without condition, encouraged his children to do the right things, and supported them in all of their endeavors.

A kind-hearted man who showed his love in many ways, Sonny was one of those rare people who always had the interest of others at heart. He was a people's person who greatly impacted his surroundings and touched the lives of everyone that knew him.  His enthusiasm and exuberance were extremely contagious—he was truly unforgettable.

In the early morning hours on Sunday, August 18, 2019, Sonny transitioned to eternal rest.

Cherished memories will forever remain  with his wife, Beverly White Woods; his children, Anthony M. (Carol) Woods of Pensacola, FL, Olivia D. (James) Stevens  and Tonjia M. (Charles) Rackard of Orlando, FL, Kiwanis C. (Charlie) Graham and Stacey K. (Regina) Hill of Tucson, AZ, Kasha L. (Timothy) Novak of Baileyville, ME, and Patrick D. Woods of Gallup, NM; two siblings, Helen Bush of Houston, TX and Joseph Bush of California; a special cousin, Daisy Wooten of Oakland, CA; twenty-four grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
