Obituary

Susan P. Brown, beloved daughter of the late Julia Bush Lemon, was  born on July 15, 1929, in Albany, Georgia.

She was educated in the Dougherty County School System, graduating from Madison High School in 1947.  Believing strongly in higher education, she matriculated at Albany State College (University) in Education.

Susan loved the Lord with all her heart and she loved God's Word.  Though she was a gentle, humble woman, she was nonetheless a powerful prayer warrior and a dedicated member of Hines Memorial CME Church.  Her faith never wavered and she remained spiritually strong throughout life's journey.

Susan's journey was marked by her passion for education and her love for children.  For 35 years, she was relentless in guiding and inspiring young minds in the Dougherty County School System.  Throughout her career, she sought to make learning exciting and pleasurable for each student—every mind was important to her and she helped shape the lives of many students.  Upon retirement in 2013, she received numerous accolades that were profound testaments to her unquestionable professional integrity and level of excellence.

Blessed beyond measure, Susan lived a rich and rewarding life; reached the hallowed age of 95, and left a legacy of love, humility, generosity, and godliness that will forever be cherished.  Her life was filled with many interesting experiences, including spending time with family and friends, helping others, and sharing her wealth of knowledge and unconditional love.  She had a way of looking into your soul and knowing just what you would need to make you grow.  Having the privilege of being loved by her was to know you would be loved for a lifetime.

On January 27, 2025, Susan peacefully transitioned from this earthly life to be with the Lord.  In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her daughter, India Dorsey; and two brothers, Joseph Trent and Richard Trent.

Cherished memories will forever remain in the hearts of her children, Tyra Jones of Bowie, MD and Robert Dorsey of Albany, GA; a devoted granddaughter, Daphany Bonner; her sister, Jacqueline (Mack) Tumblin of Albany, GA; sister-in-law, Betty Trent; great grandchildren, Bronze Thomas and Breazia Bonner of Albany, GA; nieces and nephews, Tresca, Tonea, Subricca, Toreka, Joy, Ronda, Robbin, Tracy, Angela, Jennifer, Terrence, Travious, Richard Waylon, Richard Daniel, Joanne, and Michael; grandson-in-love, Robert Price; and a host of cousins, extended family, and friends.
