IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Tony Bernard
Reid, Sr.
January 7, 1967 – April 16, 2020
Tony Bernard Reid, Sr., son of Mary Mathis and Clifford Reid, was born January 7, 1967, in Albany, Georgia.
He received his formal education in the public schools of Dougherty County, including Monroe Comprehensive High School where he graduated in the class of 1984. While at Monroe, Tony was a star baseball player who was strong and powerful at the bat and often kicked up clouds of dust running to the bases.
Early in life, Tony accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and united with Greater Pine Chapel Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend R. N. Elzia, Jr. He was a faithful member and willingly assisted wherever needed. In later years, he united with Greater New Metropolitan Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Ronald E. Brown. Tony was a dedicated servant who loved the Lord. He had a deep passion for gospel music; his favorite song was "Deliver Me."
Tony was a hardworking man who devoted much of his time and energy providing for his family. His ambition and drive helped him to become small business entrepreneur. He owned and operated The Lunchroom until his health declined. While preparing delicious soul food dishes, he proudly proclaimed, "They cookin' now!"
Affectionately known by many as "Grease," Tony was a very high-spirited burst of positive energy, He had a mind that never ceased questioning, a serious twinkle in his eyes, a fearless and loving spirit, and a heart that opened freely to family and friends. When life experiences became blurry, he did everything in his power to make them clearer; oftentimes turning them into unforgettable adventures and memories.
On Thursday, April 16, 2020, Tony transitioned from this life at St. Francis Emory Healthcare in Columbus, GA. He was preceded in death by his brother, Ricardo Garvin; and his grandparents, Ella L. Phillips, Lucille Reid, Dan Mathis, and Ida Mathis.
