Obituary

Tyria Tayana James was born in Albany, Georgia on February 5, 1991.  She was the beloved daughter of Darrel Joy and Natasha Sherman.

She received her early childhood and secondary education in the Dougherty County School System, graduating from Albany High School in 2010.  Throughout school, Tyria was a considerate, attentive young lady with a yearning to be of service and help others.

Tyria's Christian experience began at a very early age when she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior.  She was a faithful member of the Church of Christ at Gaines Avenue.  Her faith and trust in God kept her spiritually grounded and allowed her to be an example for many in her daily walk.

In 2021, Tyria was joined in holy matrimony to the love of her life, Herman Leon James II.  Together, they embarked  on a life filled with love and devotion to each other and they were blessed with wonderful children who brought immeasurable joy to their lives.  She was a selfless, altruistic wife and mother who ate not the bread of idleness and often sacrificed her needs for the good of her family.

A pillar of resilience, Tyria was known for her unwavering commitment to family and her unyielding work ethic.  She had  a very fulfilling career at Albany OBGYN where she touched countless lives with her kindness, expertise, empathy, and care.  Over the years, she worked hard to consistently pursue excellence in her career.  She had a natural gift for serving others which was exemplified while caring for her patients with dignity, respect, and true compassion.  Tyria was a truly remarkable and dedicated person who positively impacted patients and colleagues alike.

Known to many as a caring and giving woman with a sweet spirit, Tyria radiated light wherever she trod and greeted everyone with a perpetual smile.   She was a devoted wife, doting mother, beloved daughter, loyal sister and aunt, unfaltering  niece, committed cousin, and an unforgettable friend who was the rock and foundation for so many people.  Anyone who knew her also knew that if she called you family or friend, there were no lengths too great for her to help you—her heart knew no bounds.  She will long be remembered for her warmth, kindness, and dedication to her family and community.

On June 22, 2024, Tyria answered the to eternal peace and rest surrounded by her family.  Although absent from the body, we take comfort in knowing that she is present with the Lord.  She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Justine Sherman; great grandparents, Mosley Anderson, Cleo Cseay, and Ernest Cseay, Sr.; uncles and aunts, Clifford  Cseay, Gardy Anderson, Myron M. Sherman, Mary Cseay, and Barbara Roberts; and her mother and father-in-law, Luceil James and Herman James, Sr.

Tyria is survived by her loving husband, Herman Leon James II; three very beautiful children, Taliyah James, Trevor, James, and Herman Leon James, III; her parents, Darrell Joy and Natasha Sherman; grandparents, David Sherman, Sr., Dorothy Joy, and James Joy; siblings, Alexandria Jackson, Bobby White, Khyree Joy, Ivory Joy, Da'Raeius Joy, and Tiye Joy; uncles, James V.
