IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Valerie
Porter-Fleming
December 8, 1964 – August 10, 2024
Valerie L. Porter-Fleming was born in Albany, Georgia on December 8, 1964. She was the beloved daughter of the late Freddie Lee Porter, Sr. and Lessie Mae Edwards Porter..
She received her early childhood and secondary education in the Dougherty County School System, graduating from Monroe Comprehensive High School in 1982. Valerie valued higher education and viewed it as a pathway to greater employment opportunities. She continued her studies at Albany State University and Troy University where she earned a degree in Business Administration.
Valerie had the great advantage of growing up in a home where she was nurtured in the Word of God.
As a youth, she accepted Christ as her Savior and began her journey of Christian stewardship at Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church. Through the years, she remained steadfast in service and never ceased to give God the glory and praise for her many blessings.
A very conscientious and independent individual, Valerie was a career employee with Georgia Pacific. She was a stellar employee who was totally committed to her work, never shield away from a challenge, and worked tirelessly over the years to constantly exceed company standards—always giving her very BEST. Upon retirement, she was hailed as a loyal, dedicated employee who rendered 28 years of outstanding and unparalleled service.
While Valerie was always a hard worker with many remarkable accomplishments in her work life, even more remarkable were the qualities that made her a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. Her warmth, kindness, and generosity, and positive attitude combined with her charismatic personality, charm, unique style, and flair made her a favorite among all who had the privilege of being a part of her life. "Ms. Hollywood," as she was endearingly called, had a special presence about her that would light up a room and her gigantic smile was undeniably contagious. Her love of family and friends was beyond words, and by example taught all of us the importance of love, family, and togetherness.
On August 10, 2024, Valerie peacefully transitioned from this earthly life in Augusta, Georgia. Although her passing leaves an overwhelming sadness, we take comfort in knowing that she and her brother, Freddie L. Porter, Jr. are now present with the Lord.
Cherished memories will forever remain with her daughters, Bertrailia L. Odom, Zari C. Fleming, and Naja C. Fleming; her grandchildren, Nala B. Fleming and Jaylon Edwards; three siblings, Laura Porter, Dira Porter, and Stevie Porter; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family, and friends.
