He received his formal education in the Thomas County School System, graduating from Douglass High School in 1954. In later years, he attended Albany State College where he earned the Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science.
Vaughn was a military enthusiast who served his country with distinction in the United States Air Force. Vaughn received the Meritorious Service medal in Avionics and numerous other commendations as he advanced to the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. He retired with full honors after 24 years of active duty service. Vaughn was not satisfied with idleness after his retirement; rather, he continued servicing his country through his employment at the Albany Marine Corps Logistics Base until his final retirement totaling more than 42 years of US governmental service. Still desiring to remain active in the workforce, he worked as a substitute teacher at Monroe Comprehensive High School and in the GED section of Albany Technical College during the final years of his wide-ranging career. Devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, cousin, and loyal friend, Vaughn garnered much from his life experiences. His love for family and friends was infinite and he cherished each moment spent with them. The strong bonds of friendship that he developed through the years will forever be remembered.
On Monday, April 16, 2021, Vaughn departed this earthly life. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Winifred Hodges and Phillip Reid.
