Obituary

Vernice Thomas, beloved daughter of Gladys Curry and the late Jack Given, was born in Albany, Georgia on June 30, 1958.

She received her early childhood education in the Dougherty County School System and completed her secondary education in Connecticut.  Throughout her school y ears, she enjoyed a very active and well-rounded educational experience.

Early in life, Vernice was nurtured in the Word of God.  She dearly loved the Lord and regularly attended Greater Pine Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.

Vernice was united in marriage to the love of her life, Curtis Joe Thomas, Sr.  She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who diligently cared for the needs of her family.  Her grandson, Kyahlin, was a great source of joy and pride in her life, and they shared many happy and precious moments together.  Assuredly, he held the key to her heart!

A highly skilled and accomplished seamstress, Vernice's sewing skills stood out throughout her employment with Lee County Manufacturing, Susie's Pillows, Phillips Men's Clothing, and Sedena Alterations.  Her attention to detail and superior workmanship—a well finished seam, a covered button, a concealed zipper, positioning of pin tucks and darts, or turning a collar are mere fractions of the seasons why she excelled immensely in her career.  She could do it all!  Even after retirement, Vernice remained highly sought after for her creative and stylish designs.

On October 28, 2024, Vernice transitioned from this earthly life to eternal peace and rest.  She will fondly be remembered as a strong yet gentle lady with a kind and giving spirit.

Vernice's memory will forever remain with her beloved husband, Curtis Joe Thomas, Sr.; her son, Curtis Joe Thomas; grandson, Kyahlin Thomas; her loving mother, Gladys Curry; siblings, Aretha (Cornell) Richardson, Kimberly A. Kendrick, Anderson K. Curry, Jennifer L. Curry, Michael (Kim) Curry, Roderick (Robin) Curry, and Tammatha D. Curry; a special aunt and uncle, Minnie and Thomas Nelson; several in-laws; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends .
