Obituary

The season of life for Virginia Mae Duncan began on October 20, 1954, in Newton, Georgia. She was the beloved daughter of the late Lonzo Duncan and Evelyn Hawkins Duncan.

She received her early childhood and secondary education in the Baker County School System. Throughout school, Virginia was a very inquisitive student with a zeal for learning. She continued her education at Albany Area Vocational School where she gained valuable technical and industrial skills.

At a very early age, Virginia began her journey with the Lord. She united with the Thankful Missionary Baptist Church and served faithfully as she blended her voice in praise with the members of the Young Adult and Senior choirs. Through the years, she weas unfaltering in her devotion and freely assisted in numerous capacities—always seeking to please God and help others.

Virginia was a conscientious, hardworking individual who ate not the bread of idleness. She was an extremely proficient seamstress whose skills were put to test for many years in local manufacturing companies. She took great pride in ensuring that her work was flawless—oftentimes exceeding company standards.

Endearingly called "Ginger" by family and friends, Virginia was a very outgoing, jovial individual with a big heart and a welcoming spirit. She believed deeply in unconditional love and stood ready to help anyone in need—always with a smile and never asking anything in return. Whether enjoying a day of shopping, working, or attending a community event, Ginger made friends easily, some of which have become close, longtime friends. She was a one-of-a-kind sister, aunt, cousin, and friend who left an indelible footprint in the hearts of all who loved her dearly.

Facing the sunset of her earthly journey, Virginia quietly transitioned to her heavenly home on Wednesday, April 12 2023. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Ricky Duncan.

Loving memories will forever be cherished by her siblings, Dr. Wallace Duncan of Norcross, GA, Evelyn Duncan of Newton, GA, Lisa (Dwight) Higdon of Somerville, MA, Yolonda Calhoun of Dawson, GA, and Ronnie Duncan, Bobby Ann (James) Edwards, and Tammy Hazelwood all of Albany, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.
