Obituary

The journey of life for Virginia Sherman Jones began in Lee County, Georgia on January 9, 1940. She was the daughter of the late Annie Mae Sherman Young and Willie Albert Bell. Virginia was raised by her grandparents, the late George and Harriet Sherman; thus, becoming the thirteenth child in their home.

She received her formal education in the attended Terrell County School System where she actively participated in various school activities and events. Very early in life, Virginia was taught the Word of God and the importance of living a life of strong character and loving kindness. As a youth, she became a soldier for Christ, was baptized, and received the "right hand of fellowship" into the body of Christ at County Line Missionary Baptist Church.

Through the years, she served faithfully and rendered unparalleled service in her calling as a Deaconess, a member of the choir, and Mother of the Church. She was a prayer warrior whose faith and trust in God never wavered. You could not know her without being inspired by her devotion to
her church and her strong convictions that allowed her to be an example for many.

In 1966, she was joined in holy matrimony to the love of her life, Terry Jones. Their union endured for 56 glorious years and was blessed with five loving children.

As a wife and mother, she ate not the bread of idleness and often times sacrificed her needs for the good of her family. For many years, she was employed as a cook and put her heart and soul into creating succulent, soulful dishes that kept everyone coming back for more. She was a dedicated employee who always gave her BEST.

"MaCat, Virginia, and Mother Jones" as she was endearingly called, had a servant's heart and took great pride in using her God-given talents to help others. She was a trusted friend and confidant; stood ready to lend a listening ear; and would will be remembered by many as an unselfish servant with a sweet, sweet spirit.

On June 24, 2022, Mother Jones faced the sunset of her earthly journey as Almighty God called his faithful servant home. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her daughters, Juanita Sherman and Deborah Taylor; grandson, Terrance Hooks; great grandson, Jeremiah Moore; great-great grandson, Grayson McPhee; siblings, Minister Wonderlyn Pickney, Jessie Sherman, and Patrick Bell.

Precious memories will forever remain with her husband, Terry Jones; children, Willie Taylor, Teresa (Quincy) Stafford, and Terri Jones Jackson; siblings, Cheryl Bell and Willie Joe Bell; grandchildren, Topeaka (Edward), Marquita (Richard), Tanyaneka (Henry), Ashley (Kenneth), Shaunta, Amber, Maya, and Quincy; aunt, Ruby (Willie) Johnson; nephew and nieces, Wallace (Gwen) Thomas, Rena (Emmit) Irby, Patrina Bell, Shauntay Bell, Candice Adams, and Regina Love; sisters -in-law, Edith Singleton, Gracie Ball, Ruby (Johnny) Lewis, Marjorie Jones, Bettie Sherman, and Patrina Bell; brother-in-law, Charlie Jones; and godson, Minister Anthony (Jacqueline) Holt, Sr.
