Obituary

We are here to celebrate the life of Mr. Wesley Grant Mickens. Wesley was born on October 18, 1959 in Leon County, Florida to the late Mrs. Annie Mae Brown.

He graduated from Westover High School and attended Savannah State University, majoring in Psychology. He also obtained his barber's license and was certified in plumbing. He was a jack of all trades. His favorite hobby was fishing. One of his favorite quotes was "You can feed a man for a day, but if you teach a man how to fish, he will be fed for a lifetime." He was "Pop" to some, "UNC" to others, and a friend to all.


Wesley was preceded in death by his mother, Mrs. Annie Mae Brown; sister, Mattie Hightower; and daughter, Kimberly Tolson.


He leaves behind to cherish his memories, his loving wife of 13 years (20 years together) Jenesse P. Mickens; Children: Taquita Shingles of Atlanta, GA, Zantalius Mickens (Tiaundra) and Zerkiya Shingles (Paulina) of Albany, GA; Sean Shingles (Kenya) of Kentucky; and Chorazin Shingles; Step-Children: Dedra Pickett, Darlisha Pickett, Denetra Pickett, Marquese Brown, Avianna Brown all of Albany GA; Siblings: Sarah Mickens, Jimmy Brown, Charlie Brown Jr. Willie Mickens and Mattie Brown of Albany, GA; and Henry Mickens of Jacksonville, FL; God-sons, Charles Mosely and Arderrius Powell and God-daughter, Yvonne Williams; He also leaves behind (32) grandchildren (10) great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
