IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Will Burks,
Jr.
March 17, 1931 – June 1, 2022
Will Burks, Jr., beloved son of Herman and Eliza Burks, was born in Dawson, Georgia on March 17, 1931. "Horman Lee," as he was endearingly known to family and friends, was the eldest of six children.
He was educated in the Terrell County School System where he gained valuable agricultural and life skills. Very early in life, he accepted Christ as his Savior and united with the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Dawson. Throughout life's journey, he was a prayerful and faithful servant of the Lord.
Growing up in Terrell County, Horman Lee learned the core values of family, hard work, and farming. In his early twenties, he moved to Atlanta, Georgia to seek better opportunities. He was a very ambitious individual who gave his best at everything he did. Over the years, he poured himself into diverse work experiences at Emory Healthcare, self employment, and the Kroger Corporation. Upon retirement from Kroger in 2016, he was lauded as an outstanding, dedicated employee who was dependable; most cooperative; careful and conscientious in performing his duties; and respected by his co-workers and customers.
Blessed beyond measure, Horman Lee lived a rich and rewarding life; reached the hallowed age of 91; and was loved by all who had the privilege of his fellowship. He loved the beauty of the great outdoors and oftentimes could be found taking long walks—sometimes losing track of time! He also enjoyed watching wrestling matches while eating ice cream and bread. His all-time favorite, nonetheless, was driving and tinkering on his 1990 Ford pickup which was driven with much care until the keys were "retired" approximately five years ago.
On June 1, 2022, Horman Lee quietly transitioned to eternal rest and peace with the Lord. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by three children, Kenneth, Jacqueline, and Kimberly; and two siblings, Mae and RJ.
Precious memories will forever remain in the hearts of his children, Geanne Usher, Laverne Burkes, Will (Tresa) Burks, Nancy Burks, and Tamara (Zedrick) Love; siblings, Deloris Anderson, Beauty (Walter) Argros, and Robin Burkes, Sr.; daughter-in-love, Sharon Anne; 23 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.
